The Strangemakers cordially invite you to a world of their makings: from folksy contemplations about loneliness in a big city, to foot-stomping reflections on the fleeting present, to candid portraits of heartbreak and home. Led by husband-and-wife team Alex McCulloch and Tom Perry, this roots-rock band explores powerful emotions and rootsy musical influences.

In May 2019, The Strangemakers released a new single called “Wait on Me” which saw “Folk-rock band The Strangemakers sink into their grief with a stunning mid-tempo confessional”. Another single called “Are You Ready?” was released August 23, 2019. A new EP is to follow the singles.

I’d certainly love to hang out with The Strangemakers, a husband-and-wife team comprised of Alex McCulloh and Tom Perry. Their music is right up my alley with their blend of folk and punk. And they’ve got some heavy-hitters on their new single, “Wait On Me,” produced by JUNO award-winning artists Dave Ritter (The Strumbellas) and John Dinsmore (NQ Arbuckle, Donovan Woods).

Alex and Tom met at the University of Toronto in 2014 and have been playing music together ever since, writing original music and also performing blues, rock, jazz, pop, soul, R&B and country in coffee shops, dive bars, venues and corporate events. Their first original release was a 7-song EP titled First Duets, released in 2015, an eclectic collection of soul-inspired confessionals and Pink-Floyd-esque dramatic rock. In 2016, they released a full-length album A Strange Sense of Humour, a more eclectic mix featuring singer-songwriter, country and pop. The next two years saw a break from recording—Alex’s mother passed away in late 2016, and in 2018 Alex and Tom were married—but also a serendipitous meeting between The Strangemakers and Dave Ritter (The Strumbellas), who helped The Strangemakers to craft two new singles. The first, called “Wait on Me” has received favourable press coverage and radio play on CBC Radio One’s Fresh Air.
